You install a font into the System file by copying it from the suitcase or dragging the font into the System file. I noticed that if you click on a suitcase for a really old font, such as those that were for the original 128K Mac, it wouldn't show up if you clicked on the suitcase in System 7. A little checking showed that this was because the old suitcases don't have 'FOND' resources (font family). This stack will show you how to add a 'FOND' resource to an old bit-map font with ResEdit, so you can use it like any other font with System 7.
